What is NCE Instrumentation?
The instrumentation cluster in Trøndelag consists of companies which supply advanced management and communications solutions to companies in offshore, maritime, fish farming, energy and medicine.
The cluster comprises nearly 100 companies in total and has an annual turnover of approx. NOK 4 billion. There are high levels of innovation in the cluster and great potential for the development of products aimed at new markets.
The group has mainly developed over a 20-year period on the basis of a significant R&D environment in Trondheim, represented by NTNU and SINTEF.
A large proportion of the companies are located in the Trondheim region, but the cluster also comprises companies from the south in Røros and Oppdal and to the north in Levanger and Steinkjer. A great many of the companies have their roots in the R&D environment in Trondheim.
In this connection, the instrumentation cluster is defined as comprising sensor, instrument and measuring technology. In addition, there are suppliers of individual and integrated instrumentation, management and automation solutions, including associated communications solutions, software and electronics.
The cluster has considerable growth potential within existing markets. In addition there are development activities within gas transport and processing, subsea/deep-sea developments, offshore fish farming and alternative energy production. Regional demanding customers , and regional state-of-the-art technology are creating the conditions for considerable expansion of the cluster's market, products and competitiveness.
Core businesses in the cluster are: Kongsberg Maritime, CorrOcean, Fugro Oceanor, Q-Free, Kongsberg Seatex, Sicom, Norbit, Cavotec Micro-Control, StatoilHydro and Noca.
In addition to the industry, close cooperation with leading R&D and educational institutions are established. Among them is HiST, NTNU og SINTEF.
